Saxon Tower, Sparta, Michigan

Saxon Tower guarded the crossing of the PM's Petoskey line and the Grand Trunk Western's former Toledo, Saginaw & Muskegon line on the northern edge of Sparta until the GTW line was abandoned in 1946. Originally connecting Ashley and Muskegon, the GTW line was cut back and the track removed until only the portion from Ashley to Greenville and a spur going east a few miles out of Muskegon remained.

The tower was manned by the GTW, and is similar to the one which protected the crossing of the PM's Elmdale Subdivision by the same GTW line in Greenville. The Greenville tower is preserved in Coopersville, Michigan at the First Street crossing on the Coopersville & Marne Railway.
