The 90-foot turntable at the former PM locomotive facility in New Buffalo, Michigan. This photo was taken in July, 1998- within two years the turntable would be removed and relocated to Owosso for use at the Michigan State Trust for Railway Preservation's Steam Railroading Institute.
New Buffalo was once a significant engine terminal on the PM, offering westbound trains the last chance to refuel and top off their water tanks before leaving PM trackage a little over 20 miles to the southwest en route to Chicago. New Buffalo was also the point where the branch from LaCrosse, Indiana joined the PM's Chicago-Grand Rapids mainline.
Many of the PM's steam locomotives spent their last days on the dead line at New Buffalo before being hauled away to be cut down to scrap.
