PM Semaphore Switchstand at Kinde, Michigan

This style of switchstand was common on the Pere Marquette's lines in the Thumb. Before the addition of the now-standard rotating targets, these stands had a pair of semaphore-like indicators mounted to the studs on both sides of the stand. These would change position when the switch was thrown, to show approaching trains the position of the switch.
