PM 0-6-0 #467 at Detroit, Michigan in February, 1940

The PM's larger 0-8-0s tend to get more attention from railfans and modelers, but the 0-6-0 served the PM in very important capacities, being used to switch smaller industries, handle interchange runs, and numerous other small jobs for the railroad. They weren't glamorous, but they got the job done. Number 467 is being readied to head out on a Union Belt of Detroit switching job. The Union Belt was jointly operated by the PM, the Pennsylvania and the Wabash. Each took turns switching the various industries served by the 'Belt.

PM 0-6-0 #467, shown here at Detroit in February, 1940, had a life beyond its career on the PM. In June of 1948, it was sold to the Ludington & Northern, where it hauled sand from the dunes north of Ludington until the arrival of the LUN's only diesel, SW8 #16, in 1952.
