Former C&O coach #1700, at the B&O Museum in Baltimore, MD, November 2007.
This car was originally 54-seat coach-lounge #134, ordered by the C&O as part of its massive 1947 order of streamlined passenger cars from Pullman Standard. It was intended to complement coaches #20-23 in Pere Marquette District service, and shared the same floor plan. However, when it and sister car #135 were delivered in 1950, the C&O had such a surplus of cars that it sold off the existing PM coach-lounges to the Chicago & Eastern Illinois, replacing them with new 1600-series coaches, while retaining the new #134 and #135.
Car #134 was renumbered to 1700 in October 1963, then was sold to the Western Maryland in 1971. The WM used it as an instruction car.
This car is believed to be the last remaining car of this particular design.
